The mercury symbol is synonymous with the roman god Mercury who is the equivalent of the greek god hermes who in freemasonary is believed to be the apostle Paul
"Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul they called Hermes because he was the chief speaker."
While the sulphur symbol is associated with the apostle Barnabas in freemasonary, they believe that most references to fire and brimstone in the bible are refering to the apostle Barnabas aswell.
These two apostle are known as the alpha and omega from the bible aswell:
"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End."
The alpha and omega aka paul and barnabas being seperated:
While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."
The sun in freemasonary represents John the Baptist (and sometimes John the Evangelist and his brother James the son of thunder).
While the moon represents the Virgin mary (and the two other marys from the bible sometimes).
In terms of higher level freemasonary, its hard to prove in this post....but.. none the less, the sun represents the dog star in dog star system in higher level freemasonary, hence why christians practice dogma, and vicars wear dog collars. Because John the baptist is a sort of wolf in sheeps clothing and had his own virgin birth etc.
The moon in higher level freemasonary has associations with orions belt because many of the goddesses associated with the moon are in groups of three and it so happens that Orions' belt has three stars aswell (for example the triple moon goddes in wiccan beliefs).
The alpha and omega symbol, or in this case the mercury and sulphur symbol which are pretty much the same thing is to do with the hyades cluster (apostle barnabas) and orion (apostle paul).
This is because in the bible the apostle barnabas is called zeus and zeus was thought to be able to morph into a bull which the constellation of Taurus is associated with. Also the letter A for alpha comes from the letter V which the Hyades cluster is shaped like. Also the letter A for alpha originally comes from a hieroglyph for a bull. The sumerian god Anu, whos symbols are a triple chevron (three v symbols) is also associated with bulls. I could honestly go on and on if I had to.
In the bible it says that paul has an eye infection hence why he is known as the all seeing eye in freemasonary. While the apostle paul is a little harder to explain, his symbol is an omega symbol (letter O) which where we get the all seeing eye from which the letter O is descended from, the eye I believe represents the lambda orionis nebula in orion which is shaped like an eye. Also the letter O is derived from the letter W which is where we get the number 3 from which so happens to be how many stars in orions belt there are again. Also many hindu deities have three eyes, with the third eye being the all seeing eye. Three eyes = three stars in orions belt, so mythology is basically telling us that the all seeing eye is to do with orion.
This explains it better than I do:
