The moon has to do with the triple moon goddess which symbolically represents Orions belt.

It represents the marriage between a god of the underworld and orions belt :)

The goddess Ninhursag is seen in sumerian tablets as being three headed sometimes symbolically representing Orion's belt where there are three stars.
