"Did They Die Because We Lied?"

Author, filmmaker and media reform activist Danny Schechter has died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 72. Danny Schechter rose to prominence as the "The News Dissector" on Boston’s WBCN radio in the 1970s. He went on to work as a television producer at ABC’s 20/20, where he won two Emmy Awards, and at the newly launched CNN.

He left corporate media to lead MediaChannel.org and Global Vision. Schechter wrote 12 books, including "The More You Watch, the Less You Know" and he was the creator of this film.

Schecter described himself as obsessed with the media's relationship with war. Analyzing the coverage of the Gulf wars, he asserts that embedded journalists too often turn out to be, if you will, in-bedded, journalists.

Footage that's now especially striking shows visitors to the former sites of the World Trade Center lashing out at someone merely iterating that Iraq's government did not carry out the 9/11 attacks.

"How wars are covered, or covered up, is key," says Schecter, in this brilliant meta-analysis of propaganda and so-called "objectivity." - https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=wkkAXkhKg98#t=0
