Buzz Aldrin: The First Humans On Mars Should Never Come Home

Buzz Aldrin: The First Humans On Mars Should Never Come Home. [click image to enlarge]
I have considered whether a landing on Mars could be done by the private sector. It conflicts with my very strong idea, concept, conviction, that the first human beings to land on Mars should not come back to Earth. They should be the beginning of a build-up of a colony / settlement, I call it a "permanence." A settlement you can visit once or twice, come back, and then decide you want to settle. Same with a colony. But you want it to be permanent from the get-go, from the very first. I know that many people don't feel that that should be done. Some people even consider it distinctly a suicide mission. Not me! Not at all. Because we will plan, we will construct from the moon of Mars, over a period of 6-7 years, the landing of different objects at the landing site that will be brought together to form a complete Mars habitat and laboratory, similar to what has been done at the Moon.

There's not exactly a shortage of folks who are willing to die on Mars, Elon Musk included, so the personnel part of the plan might not be too far-fetched. NASA seems to be a bit too strapped for cash to pull it off, so maybe Aldrin and Musk can team up on their plan to give people the chance to retire on Big Red Planet. The real trick is getting them to build a colony before they croak.

Elon Musk said that his SpaceX spaceships will get humans to Mars by 2026, with or without NASA. It may seem cocky, but coming from a man who has built this entire company so he can die on Mars—and to "help ensure the survival of humanity"—those words are not to be taken lightly.

Talking today to CNBC, Musk said that he's "hopeful that the first people could be taken to Mars in 10 to 12 years."

I think it's certainly possible for that to occur. But the thing that matters long term is to have a self-sustaining city on Mars, to make life multi-planetary.

A self-sustaining city... I like that he's thinking big. I also like that he is conscious of the challenges that lie ahead, but confident that these targets are possible. He will be 50 years old by the time this hypothetical mission launches, giving him plenty of time to go there and complete his life dream. That kind of drive and commitment is too personal to ignore. People who are mad enough to think in these terms—and have the necessary means—are the people who can make the seemingly impossible happen.

The right pieces are starting to fall in place.

SpaceX already has the Falcon Heavy rocket in development, which has the power to lift the kind of load needed for a Mars mission and first settlement. It's expected to launch next year.

Humans will land on Mars by 2026, says SpaceX Elon Musk

They are also working on Dragon V2, which is clearly designed with the idea of Mars (and Moon) landings thanks to a vertical rocket-based landing system that will allow for immediate fuel reload and relaunch.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cf_-g3UWQ04&feature=player_embedded#t=0 While Dragon V2 won't be the ship that will arrive to Mars, V3 will probably be the one. Space fans are already dreaming about this spaceship:Who will pay for it?

But who's going to pay for his Mars dream? According to Musk, future stockholders will. It's something ballsy, but he's confident that once they demonstrate the reality, people will long-term investment goals will buy in:We need to get where things are steady and predictable. Maybe we're close to developing the Mars vehicle, or ideally we've flown it a few times, then I think going public would make more sense.Elon Musk US Senate Hearing on National Security Space Launch Programs - SpaceX -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWVZYKGTenE More-Elon Musk Talks About The SpaceX Revolution - This guy is a genie-

Chris: human colonies on mars

this is one big lie we already have had colonies on mars since the 50,s we got technology from various alien groups we right now have infinite food techology to end world hunger free energy, beam weopanry teleportation cloning time travel wormhole technology etc and an international space fleet called Solar warden with fighters carriers and motherships they patrol this solarsytem the blackops Elite groups will never allow us to have it because we would be truly free and be able to use this technology to wipe them out no trial.

bluesbaby5050: Yes we know this Chris, that the Moon, and Mars has had them

And most people in this forum do know better, but the majority of people around this planet don't know the real truth. So though this forum we can reach the masses, and bring this knowledge that has been hidden from them to the surface. Some people are still too narrow minded to even believe that there is life that exists off this planet, and never mind trying to convince them that Aliens really do too. That's why Quinton is asking for undenible proof of this though our offered pictures, and government files, and Videos that deal with this subject matter. He is building this up in a new presentation he said. His requests are at the top of every page, check it out.
