Manta Rays Are One of the Most
Intelligent Creatures in the Ocean.

Because the popularity of the short I ran, recently about the massive schooling of some 20,000 two-meter-wide (6'6") mobular rays in the Pacific Ocean, off the coast of Baja California, Mexico, I thought I'd look for something along those lines that was even more extreme - and here it is.

This documentary takes us to a beautiful place, where few reading this will likely ever visit, except maybe for some of my
South African subscribers: the gorgeous and sparsely-populated coast of Mozambique, where the currents from the South Atlantic converge with those of the Indian Ocean, to create one of the most biodiverse acquatic environments on the planet.

It is also home to the largest known breeding populations of manta rays which few people know - including myself, until I just learned this - are one of the most intelligent creatures in the ocean and - at up to seven meters (23') long - one of the largest. Yet, despite their size and docile, curious nature, almost nothing is known about their lives.

Within the first few minutes of watching one of these massive creatures doing vertical loops around a scuba-diving young woman
biologist, like some kind of a living Ferris Wheel, you'll be hooked by the majestic animals and the amazing variety of beautiful fish underwater, as well as the on-land scenes of a part of the world that is relatively pristine and devoid of suburban sprawl and pollution, with some of the most beautiful beaches and dunes to be seen, owing to its low population density.

Young marine biologist Andrea Marshall has given up everything for a life in Mozambique, diving amongst these beautiful animals. Superb underwater photography reveals new manta ray behavior including breathtaking footage of their ritual courtship dances.

The film follows Andrea as she studies these endangered animals up close. With the discovery of a giant new species and remarkable insights into mantas' secretive lives, Andrea's findings are rocking the world of marine biology.
