Man's Prodigal Journey of Redemption

The following excerpt is an absolutely fantastic interpretation of the fall of man and his redemption as presented by Manly P. Hall. I think many people could benefit greatly by really understanding what is being said here.

by Quinton on October 31st, 2010
Sistine Chapel Fall of Man by Michelangelo

In this ritualistic drama--possibly derived from the Egyptians--Adam, banished from the Garden of Eden, represents man philosophically exiled from the sphere of Truth. Through ignorance man falls; through wisdom he redeems himself. The Garden of Eden represents the House of the Mysteries (see The Vision of Enoch) in the midst of which grew both the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.

Man, the banished Adam, seeks to pass from the outer court of the Sanctuary (the exterior universe) into the sanctum sanctorum, but before him rises a vast creature armed with a flashing sword that, moving slowly but continually, sweeps clear a wide circle, and through this "Ring Pass Not" the Adamic man cannot break.

The cherubim address the seeker thus: "Man, thou art dust and to dust thou shalt return. Thou wert fashioned by the Builder of Forms; thou belongest to the sphere of form, and the breath that was breathed into thy soul was the breath of form and like a flame it shall flicker out. More than thou art thou canst not be. Thou art a denizen of the outer world and it is forbidden thee to enter this inner place."

And the Adam replies: "Many times have I stood within this courtyard and begged admission to my Father's house and thou hast refused it me and sent me back to wander in darkness. True it is that I was fashioned out of the dirt and that my Maker could not confer upon me the boon of immortality. But no more shalt thou send me away; for, wandering in the darkness, I have discovered that the Almighty hath decreed my salvation because He hath sent out of the most hidden Mystery His Only Begotten who didst take upon Himself the world fashioned by the Demiurgus. Upon the elements of that world was He crucified and from Him hath poured forth the blood of my salvation. And God, entering into His creation, hath quickened it and established therein a road that leadeth to Himself. While my Maker could not give me immortality, immortality was inherent in the very dust of which I was composed, for before the world was fabricated and before the Demiurgus became the Regent of Nature the Eternal Life had impressed itself upon the face of Cosmos. This is its sign--the Cross. Do you now deny me entrance, I who have at last learned the mystery of myself?"

And the voice replies: "He who is aware, IS! Behold!"

Gazing about him, Adam finds himself in a radiant place, in the midst of which stands a tree with flashing jewels for fruit and entwined about its trunk a flaming, winged serpent crowned with a diadem of stars. It was the voice of the serpent that had spoken.

"Who art thou?" demands the Adam.

"I," the serpent answers, "am Satan who was stoned; I am the Adversary--the Lord who is against you, the one who pleads for your destruction before the Eternal Tribunal. I was your enemy upon the day that you were formed; I have led you into temptation; I have delivered you into the hands of evil; I have maligned you; I have striven ever to achieve your undoing. I am the guardian of the Tree of Knowledge and I have sworn that none whom I can lead astray shall partake of its fruits."

The Adam replies: "For uncounted ages have I been thy servant. In my ignorance I listened to thy words and they led me into paths of sorrow. Thou hast placed in my mind dreams of power, and when I struggled to realize those dreams they brought me naught but pain. Thou hast sowed in me the seeds of desire, and when I lusted after the things of the flesh agony was my only recompense. Thou hast sent me false prophets and false reasoning, and when I strove to grasp the magnitude of Truth I found thy laws were false and only dismay rewarded my strivings. I am done with thee forever, O artful Spirit! I have tired of thy world of illusions. No longer will I labor in thy vineyards of iniquity. Get thee behind me, rempter, and the host of thy temptations. There is no happiness, no peace, no good, no future in the doctrines of selfishness, hate, and passion preached by thee. All these things do I cast aside. Renounced is thy rule forever!"

And the serpent makes answer: "Behold, O Adam, the nature of thy Adversary!" The serpent disappears in a blinding sunburst of radiance and in its place stands an angel resplendent in shining, golden garments with great scarlet wings that spread from one corner of the heavens to the other. Dismayed and awestruck, the Adam falls before the divine creature.

"I am the Lord who is against thee and thus accomplishes thy salvation, " continues the voice. "Thou hast hated me, but through the ages yet to be thou shalt bless me, for I have led thee our of the sphere of the Demiurgus; I have turned thee against the illusion of worldliness; I have weaned thee of desire; I have awakened in thy soul the immortality of which I myself partake. Follow me, O Adam, for I am the Way, the Life, and the Truth!"

JamesTheJust: Simple Discussion

I would love to initiate some insightful discussion about this particular article. I find it extremely powerful and a great teaching.

I think that if you ask the average person what the motivation for his religion is they will almost always state that it is, of course, for the salvation of their immortal soul. Now the real question is how many people seek God simply to improve their quality of life? I believe the vast majority of "religious" people follow doctrine out of Fear of Damnation.

"I am the Lord who is against thee and thus accomplishes thy salvation, "

Again I say, this simple concept is so powerful.

I would also inquire as to the origins of this particular piece, who is the original author?

wmarkley: powerful

I too think this is very well done, powerful message here, I too would like to know the original author, and it is obvious, that we relate to God for fear of Damnation, because if we were to walk with God for the sake of having a personal relationship, then we would not be at war with ourselves at any given time, there would be no more hunger for the poor, there would be no more poor. Im hopeful that we humans "Wake Up" soon.

Tucker1983: "Some say kook some say prophet, i say Man. And a good one."

"as presented by Manly P. Hall" is what it says in the title. he was a smart guy. to be horribly understated.

aslund76: Manly P Hall

So is this mason saying satan and Jesus are one and the same?

Quinton: I fail to see where Jesus is

I fail to see where Jesus is mentioned in here.

obsrvantlouie: Perhaps inferred here

"But no more shalt thou send me away; for, wandering in the darkness, I have discovered that the Almighty hath decreed my salvation because He hath sent out of the most hidden Mystery His Only Begotten who didst take upon Himself the world fashioned by the Demiurgus. Upon the elements of that world was He crucified and from Him hath poured forth the blood of my salvation. And God, entering into His creation, hath quickened it and established therein a road that leadeth to Himself. "

harleyborgais: Lucifer

Lucifer is a part of God, the first creation in Gods image, the selfish part that desires gratification from wealth and power. That is Lucifer.

Adam is the Human soul, not just one, but in general, probably only the male, so eves are the females I guess.

The point is that righteousness, true enlightened, intelligent individuals will realize that only good can survive, because it is self sustaining, whereas destructive tendencies destroy the self eventually as the self is only part of the environment, never truly separate.

The Human mind is created with the level of complexity to render reality, like a 3D computer, and that gives us creative, critical thought, which is the source of free will, control over our futures, and why we can understand, and therefore destroy the entire universe.

That is why we needed to learn to temper/control our desires with reason, logic, rational and moral thought, before we learned about our ability to destroy things. But Lucifer messed it up, and our species is only starting to learn that now, as Human society is approaching a new age or right functioning. We must only reveal the corrupt methods of central bankers corrupting govt's to enough people, to make this reality happen now.

On the fixing-problems thread on this site I have all the rest of the answers, and ask me anything...

You got questions, I got answers.

aslund76: well

it states the way the truth the life . that spells Yeshua to me. He is my
Messiah. aka Jesus. Manley Palmer Hall was no Christian.
Is this a Masonic social network? alot of my Family were masons.
I think its interesting,I reject it as satanic.

JamesTheJust: clarification

Aslund I have no way of knowing if this will reach you almost two years after your post but I would like to clarify something for those yet to view this article. You claim yeshua Ben yosef as the only one you follow and that this article is satanic.
I do not consider myself satanic in the slightest. Satan is the inversion of the cross. It is directed in a opposing stance to anything Christian by default. Does Adams enlightenment/ascension strike you as something the devil would permit? Would not Satan banish adam to the halls of fire and brimstone?
Evil exists. That fact is immutable. So either God chooses to do nothing about Evil or he knows that Evil is a requirement in a universe of free will. Without the darkness of space the light of the stars would be indistinguishable. Ying and yang. Without Evil there can be no Good. So the Adversary is also a requirement. The fallen angel we attribute with with this adversary of Man is that of Lucifer.
The Bible is very obscure with its use of the word Lucifer(lux phero) "THE LIGHT BEARER" curious name for an angel of darkness wouldn't you agree? The Bible calls yeshua the "Morning Star" which is Venus because it's precedes the Sun each morning. The root of all these titles have the same meaning. The one who bears the light for all to see. In fact the original verse in the Bible using Lucifer refers not to a falling angel but that of an ancient Babylonian king that wanted to be like the Most High and his resulting fall. The idea of Satan and the devil was a much later addition when Rome incorporated Saturn one of their old God's as an adversary to God and thus Satan the adversary was born of mistranslation and people's own fear.
It was Yeshua Ben Yosef himself that said to be "wise as serpents, and innocent as doves". The serpent has since ancient times been a symbol for rebirth regeneration and immortality. You've been brainwashed by judeo-Christian interpretations of the Devil being a serpent in the garden. You claim this article as satanic and instantly dismiss its potential lesson as a result. If you are content within the walls of your own iniquity and satisfied with Blind Faith then continue as you are. The adversary of Man. Not the adversary of God. The serpent is an agent of the Most High and reveals to us our own vices and temptations so that we may overcome them and fashion from a rough uneven stone, a cornerstone from which the rest of the temple may be built and referenced upon. By revealing to us our faults we can look within to find a road to betterment and achieve salvation. Seek to remove the mote in your own eye before judging others unduly.

Tarheel: Welcome, JtJ. I respect your free will, but I take exception...

...to your statement regarding Luci. I'm not quite sure how you call a "light bearer" an angel of darkness, and maybe you aren't. Either I am misinterpreting you, or your prose is contradictory. Of course I leave you room for your free will, and I welcome you and invite your further contributions.

By the way, Venus is also referred to as "The Evening Star". It does precede The Sun on some mornings, but also serves as a precursor to (and part of) nighttime at other times and can be called either or both. Currently, it is most viewable in the morning, but will move to the evening in the 4th qtr. IMHO, the transit of Venus on 6/5/12 was one coolest celestial events of the millennia.

Please dont view this reply as a challenge to your post, but let it rather serve as a welcome.
happy to have you.

UN.i1-PHI: void of darkness is the medium that contains the light

so a light bearer will be something that bears/hold/carry the light, and since that seems as a property/aspect of darkness it can be considered as the medium/bearer of light and thus fits the definition even if it may seem/sound contradicting

i like this consideration/interpretation as it makes you think pretty/more insightfull about things, i've tought about/considered this before but not really connecting it as a metaphor or something to the stories told about luci

thnx for sharing your views james the just nice to have you here again

Tarheel: I heard/read this recently....

I heard or read this somewhere..."There is no darkness, only Light that has gotten away from itself". I am not sure how I feel about the statement, but it certainly gives rise to deeper thought and I will reserve my deduction UFN.

JamesTheJust: I do view it as a welcome :)

I do view it as a welcome :) I have been looking for insightful discussion on this particular article for some time now because it strikes so close to home.
I did not intend to confuse anyone with my wording I was merely paraphrasing Albert Pike.

"
The Apocalypse is, to those who receive the nineteenth Degree, the Apothesis of that Sublime Faith which aspires to God alone, and despises all the pomps and works of Lucifer. LUCIFER, the Light-bearer! Strange and mysterious name to give to the Spirit of Darkness! Lucifer, the Son of the Morning! Is it he who bears the Light, and with its splendors intolerable blinds feeble, for traditions are full of sensual or selfish Souls ? Doubt it not! Divine Revelations and Inspirations: and Inspiration is not of one Age nor of one Creed. Plato and Philo, also, were inspired. The Apocalypse, indeed, is a book as obscure as the Sohar. It is written hieroglyphically with numbers and images; and the Apostle often appeals to the intelligence of the Initiated. “Let him who hath knowledge, understand! let him who understands, calculate !” he often says, after an allegory or the mention of a number. Saint John, the favorite Apostle, and the Depositary of all the Secrets of the Saviour, therefore did not write to be understood by the multitude.
" (His reference to The Apocalypse in this passage is synonymous with the Book of Revelations)

I could write a whole essay on this topic but i will suffice with a link that accurately portrays my thoughts on this matter involving Lucifer.

PS. I am in my spare time an amateur Astronomer. I have always loved the slow cadence of the heavenly spheres. I have viewed Venus many nights and early mornings in various stages of its journey across our skies. I know the transit you speak of :) I put on a solar filter and caught, if i do say so myself, a very powerful image of the transit. That image is taken through the eye piece of my budget telescope with a shakey camera hand haha.

obsrvantlouie: Insightful disc

"I," the serpent answers, "am Satan who was stoned; I am the Adversary--the Lord who is against you, the one who pleads for your destruction before the Eternal Tribunal. I was your enemy upon the day that you were formed; I have led you into temptation; I have delivered you into the hands of evil; I have maligned you; I have striven ever to achieve your undoing. I am the guardian of the Tree of Knowledge and I have sworn that none whom I can lead astray shall partake of its fruits."

I think this is where the focus should lie for most trying to discover.....that lucifer is the guardian of the tree of knowledge.

Tarheel: I agree with Jerry

I am also an amateur astronomer, and that is a really cool pic, JtJ.

BTW, My brother is also a FM, and has (or had) the "Worshipful Master (?)" title at one juncture. He may have it now, I'm not sure. We don't speak often.
