The All-Male club has an initiation fee of $25,000 and is said to have a 15-20 year waiting list. Members may invite guests to the Grove although they are required to go through a heavy screening process and are generally not likely to be allowed during the July encampment.
The official motto of the Bohemian Grove is "Weaving Spiders Come Not Here" which in effect is stating that business and outside concerns should be left outside. However, there is evidence to the contrary in which plans for the Manhattan Project came to fruition in the Grove in September 1942, which subsequently led to the creation of the atomic bomb.
The Bohemian Grove was established shortly after the founding of the Bohemian Club in 1872. The July encampments such as those found today began in 1899.
Cremation of Care Ceremony
Perhaps the most bizarre thing to happen inside of Bohemian Grove is the Cremation of Care ceremony in which an effigy of "Care" is placed on an alter and burned in front of a 40 foot concrete owl "Moloch".
Alex Jones infiltrated Bohemian Grove in 2000 and was able to sneak a hidden camera in and catch footage of this ceremony. Footage can be seen in his documentary Dark Secrets: Inside Bohemian Grove.
